Anthony Smith’s return to the cage ended in disaster tonight as he was stopped inside two rounds by the little-known Jordan Heiderman.
At the height of his UFC career, Smith was one sequence away from taking Jon Jones‘ light-heavyweight title and ending a legendary winning streak. However, he hasn’t been on top form for years and retired in 2025 on a three-fight losing skid that included two TKO defeats.
Smith returned to action earlier this year when he submitted UFC veteran Chase Sherman on a Gamebred show. Unfortunately, the next time he was heard of he was being charged with making terroristic threats, two counts of false imprisonment, and an attempted class 1/1A/1B/1C/1D felony.
Anthony Smith loses return to Bare Knuckle MMA
On Friday night in the Dominican Republic, Jorge Masvidal’s Bare Knuckle FC returned with a bang. Headlining the show was the continuation of their heavyweight tournament and the controversial return of ‘Lionheart’ Anthony Smith.
Smith took on former PFL fighter Jordan Heiderman, who himself is at the tail end of his career at age 35. After an exciting first round, unfortunately the result ended up similarly to many of the American’s later UFC bouts as he curled up into a ball covered in cuts and allowed the referee to step in.
The decision to allow Smith to fight at all given his situation proved controversial with fans. In a statement before the bout, Gamebred CEO and President Lex McMahon wrote: “Jorge and I have known Anthony and his family for years.
“What we have seen, up close and over time, is a loving, devoted husband and father — nothing else. That doesn’t mean we are closing our eyes to what has been reported.
“It means we also know there is more to this story than has made it into the headlines, and we believe Anthony deserves the chance to tell it fully, in the appropriate setting, not through speculation.
“Our support for Anthony going forward is not a statement on the specifics of the case — those will be decided by the court, as they should be. It is a statement about fairness, about due process, and about standing by someone we know until we are given real reason not to.
“We will have no further comment on the legal proceedings and ask that Anthony and his family’s privacy be respected as this continues.”
