Chris Eubank Jr. is back working the bags, but recent training footage signals significant rebuilding ahead of any ring return. He appears visibly thicker around the midsection compared to his past championship form, showing little in the brief clip to warrant an immediate step into world-class competition.

Now 37, Eubank cannot coast on name value alone against top operators at 160 or 168 pounds. His upcoming outing must prove whether his gas tank can still support the relentless pace that once defined his style.

The genuine worry comes straight out of his previous appearance. Conor Benn outworked him throughout their November 2025 rematch, punctuating the victory with two knockdowns in the twelfth round to capture a decisive points win. Eubank has to show he has moved past that physical beating and can hold up during heated exchanges.

A brief snippet of bag work offers zero proof of deep stamina, proper weight management, or true ring sharpness. Even so, the thick torso looks nothing like the ripped, battle-ready physique he carried for years. Hitting stationary bags in an empty gym proves very little. Taking flush counters from an active fighter tells the real story.

His handlers sit right in a promotional trap. Eubank commands major marquee value and can easily headline another broadcast, but selling arena seats does not mean his skills remain intact. Shoving him directly into a marquee contest invites serious disaster against a top contender ready to exploit fading reflexes.

The Conor Benn bouts were massive domestic spectacles built entirely on family heritage, nostalgic grudge narratives, and Sky/DAZN marketing, but Benn was a career welterweight jumping two divisions. That was a commercial promotion, not an elite middleweight test.

Looking objectively at Eubank Jr.’s run across both 160 and 168 pounds, the George Groves fight in 2018 stands out as the solitary time he shared the ring with a legitimate, peak world-level operator in a major unification or title bout. When he stepped into the ring that night in Manchester, Groves exposed the technical deficits, jabbing his head off and outthinking him across twelve rounds.

The rest of his record leans heavily on seasoned veterans on their way out, domestic grudges, and European contenders. Eubank mastered the business side of the sport, using his surname, social media flair, and charismatic bravado to command world-class paydays without facing world-class champions. Now in his late 30s, any talk of him competing with reigning champions ignores what his resume actually shows.
