Manchester City have been found guilty of 114 Premier League financial charges following an independent panel, and their players have been given assurances by the club
Gianluigi Donnarumma’s agent, Enzo Raiola, has revealed what Manchester City have told their players following the club being found guilty of breaching Premier League financial regulations.
The eight-time Premier League champions were found guilty by an independent commission of 114 charges following an investigation into their finances spanning 2009 to 2018.
They were found guilty of all financial breaches and the majority of charges relating to failing to co-operate with the investigation. City continue to maintain their innocence and have subsequently appealed against the verdict, while possible sanctions will be determined by the independent commission at a subsequent hearing.
Enzo Maresca’s side will return to club action for the first time since the guilty verdict was made public when they visit Anfield to take on Liverpool this Sunday (4.30pm kick-off).
They are virtually guaranteed to encounter continued criticism from all opposing fanbases going forward in light of the verdict, and there has been speculation they could even face relegation should the guilty verdict stand as the footballing world debates how the club should be punished.
However, despite the ongoing furore, Raiola has insisted ‘all is calm’ at the Etihad and that his client has been offered assurances by the club.
“Could the chaos at Manchester City change anything? No, it won’t change a thing for us or for Gigio,” he told Il Napolista. “Stories pop up from time to time. The club has spoken to Gigio, and everyone is calm.
“There are important matches coming up against Liverpool and PSG, and the sporting justice process will take its course. But Gigio has received assurances from Manchester City.”
City confirmed they had lodged an appeal last week, insisting they possessed ‘a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence’ while challenging the guilty verdict.
An official club statement read: “Manchester City Football Club can confirm that at 7pm on Thursday 1st October 2026 the Club lodged its comprehensive Appeal against the opinion of the Premier League Commission, in relation to the Premier League disciplinary matter.
“The Club’s firm position is that, on multiple grounds, the opinion contains clear material errors, of law, principle and fact and is unsafe.
“The Club is innocent of the accusations made by the Premier League and a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence exists in support of all of its positions, relating to this case.
“We will continue to respect due process and are necessarily restricted in what we can say further until all proceedings are complete.”
