Tyson Fury is now preparing for his long-awaited meeting with Anthony Joshua in December, and he has opted to add a fellow British heavyweight – who defeated both Daniel Dubois and Joseph Parker – to his training camp.
After being linked together for over a decade, the bout between Fury and Joshua is finally in sight, with the duo of two-time heavyweight world champions set to go toe-to-toe on Friday, December 11, in Cardiff, following last week’s launch press conference.
As a result, both ‘The Gypsy King’ and ‘AJ’ are setting up training camp for their blockbuster affair, with former Fury trainer Ben Davison rejoining Team Joshua in an intriguing move ahead of the clash.
Whilst Joshua’s attempt to get a potential inside scoop on his opponent has been well documented, it seems as though Fury could be trying to do something similar, bringing Joe Joyce – a former Team GB amateur teammate of Joshua’s – in as a sparring partner, as revealed on his Instagram.
Whilst Joshua and ‘The Juggernaut’ sparred regularly at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, the pair also met in a competitive setting, when Joshua halted Joyce in the opening round of the final of the 2011 ABA Championships.
Joyce was seen as a potential future world heavyweight champion when he earned wins over former Joshua conqueror Daniel Dubois and fellow ‘AJ’ past foe Joseph Parker, but he has found things tough as of late.
The 41-year-old has lost five of his last six bouts but has decided not to retire from the sport, seeking to regain his previous reputation as a threat to the heavyweight world titles, which has been decimated since his 2023 defeats to Zhilei Zhang.
