Cris Cyborg liked what she saw from one promising prospect on Friday night.
Before the MMA leader returns to screens on Saturday night with UFC Vegas 122 from the Meta Apex, there was action inside the cage under the LFA banner.
The regional organization staged its 243rd event at the Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz, California, where a number of up-and-comers looked to make a statement.
One man who certainly did was middleweight Joe Thurrott, who lived up to his ‘Cutthroat’ moniker with a brutal finish.

UFC and MMA legend Cris Cyborg praises Joe ‘Cutthroat’ Thurrott after KO in his LFA debut
The UFC middleweight division has been a hot topic in recent days owing to Sean Strickland’s public complaints about pay.
He is refusing to fight again until his contractual dispute is resolved, delaying the planned title defense against Nassourdine Imavov.
In the meantime, one man who will have his eye on joining stars like Strickland and Imavov at the top of the UFC’s 185-pound weight class made a splash in his return.
Joe Thurrott competed on Friday’s LFA 243 main card to make his ninth professional appearance. As an amateur, ‘Cutthroat’ won gold under the San Francisco Combat banner.
After winning his first pro title in Valley Fight Series, the middleweight prospect is now looking to rise through the ranks in one of the UFC’s frequent feeder promotions.
Things started well for Thurrott in that regard on October 9, as he knocked out Ricky Miller with a violent onslaught of punches in round one.
After rocking his opponent, ‘Cutthroat’ closed the show with a brutal left hook that folded Miller and did not require any follow-up shots.
The clip caught the attention of many fans on social media, and even MMA legend Cris Cyborg was impressed by what she saw.
“This guy’s fun to watch,” Cyborg wrote on X.
Thurrott now holds a 7-2 record as a pro, having gone 7-3 across his 10 amateur bouts.
He will likely need to replicate his performance from Friday a few more times in LFA before potentially earning a call-up to the UFC.
