“A trilogy with Tyson Fury (if he beats AJ) and David Benavidez are seen as viable options for the @ringmagazine heavyweight champ,” Coppinger wrote on X.

Tyson Fury could turn a victory over Anthony Joshua into a third fight with Oleksandr Usyk, with Mike Coppinger reporting that the trilogy is among the unbeaten Ukrainian’s viable options.
Fury knows the public will swallow almost anything if he manages to blast through Anthony Joshua. Beating Joshua on December 11 would give Fury something fresh to bring into another Usyk promotion. Having lost their first two fights, Fury needs a reason for fans to believe a third meeting could end differently. A strong performance against Joshua would help him sell that argument.
“A trilogy with Tyson Fury (if he beats AJ) and David Benavidez are seen as viable options for the @ringmagazine heavyweight champ,” Coppinger wrote on X.
Usyk has been open about wanting another fight with Fury, whom he calls “Greedy Belly.” That gives Fury a willing potential opponent, although Coppinger’s report does not mean an agreement is in place.
The commercial appeal would be considerable if Fury comes through against Joshua. Their long-awaited British fight already commands attention, and the winner would leave with another major payday available against the man who beat both of them twice.
Taking Joshua out tells us absolutely nothing about whether Fury can solve Oleksandr Usyk. Joshua is an upright, orthodox target who stands right in front of opponents and has well-documented issues under heavy fire. Usyk is the polar opposite: a relentless, southpaw puzzle with feints, foot speed, and an engine that exposed every physical decline Fury tried to mask.
In their first encounter, Fury was essentially saved by the ropes and the referee during that disastrous ninth round. In the rematch, the conditioning fell apart completely. Fury entered soft, lacked explosive pop, and could not sustain any meaningful offense once Usyk stepped on the throttle. Twenty-four rounds of evidence already proved that Usyk has his timing and rhythm mapped out completely.
So why push for a trilogy? It comes down to ego and money. Fury has convinced himself that an emphatic win over Joshua resets the board. He knows the casual fan base has a short memory; if he looks destructive on December 11, the promotional machine can spin the fantasy that a focused, vintage Fury finally showed up. Couple that with another massive Saudi payday, and he will happily take the beating. He is cashing in on brand equity rather than tactical reality.
Beating Joshua does not fix slow feet, fading reflexes, or the inability to keep a master boxer off him. Usyk holds the psychological and stylistic blueprint to pick him apart all night.
