Lisandro Martinez’s brutal rant after Manchester United’s latest loss was reportedly partly inspired by one teammate’s inclusion in the starting lineup.
Following United’s 2-0 loss to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, Martinez shocked fans as he launched a scathing attack on the club hierarchy for a lack of investment in recent months.
Since then, the United defender has released a series of statements on social media, apologising in one of them, as details of the real reason behind the rant emerge online, and it’s not been good news for one of his young teammates.

Lisandro Martinez ‘frustrated’ by Man United teammate playing vs Atletico Madrid
The loss to Atletico Madrid mid-week means United have now gone five matches without a win in any competition, placing serious pressure on Michael Carrick over his future as manager.
With a heated match against rivals Leeds United at Elland Road to come on Sunday, all eyes are on United, particularly in the wake of Martinez’s brutal comments.
And now it’s been revealed that the Argentine’s rant was partly due to his frustration that teammate Ayden Heaven was included in the team at left-back.
According to SunSport, Martinez wasn’t happy to see the youngster, who has made just four appearances in all competitions this season, starting out of his normal position.
Carrick ultimately opted to play Heaven at left-back simply due to a lack of fitness in the position with left Luke Shaw, Noussair Mazraoui and Patrick Dorgu all out injured.
But to Martinez, forcing Heaven to play away from his typical centre-back position epitomises the issue of the club’s lack of investment, something he made clear was the root cause of his problems across his statements.
That being said, in his most recent statement, the World Cup winner apologised for his actions.
“Today I met with the club’s leadership and the manager. It was a very positive conversation, where we were able to exchange views and speak openly about what happened after the game,” Martinez wrote.
“Everyone knows that I am a passionate person and that I live football with great intensity.
“The frustration of the defeat led me to express how I felt at a time and place that perhaps were not right, and for that I want to apologise.
“Our club is at its best when we are all united, and I recognise that my words in that moment did not help with that.”

Man United decide Lisandro Martinez punishment after Champions League outburst
However, just because Martinez has apologised doesn’t mean that he’s gotten away with the outburst without any punishment from United.
Immediately after the comments were made it was suggested that a range of punishments could be coming Martinez’s way, with suspensions and fines both on the table.
But it now appears that Martinez’s actions in the days since his outburst means he has escaped suspension and is expected to be available for selection ahead of Sunday’s clash with Leeds United.
Instead, United have given the defender a fine as a punishment, with the club now said to consider the matter to be closed.
