Timothy Bradley is calling out Shakur Stevenson over his reluctance to face Devin Haney at 147 pounds, pointing to a glaring double standard after Stevenson showed complete willingness to jump to welterweight for Manny Pacquiao and Conor Benn.

To Bradley, claiming the division is suddenly too big only when Haney enters the picture does not hold up.

“He’s willing to go to 147 to face against Manny Pacquiao. He’s willing to go to 147 to face against Conor Benn,” Bradley said to Boxing King Media “But he’s not willing to face Devin Haney at 147.”

That contradiction puts Stevenson in a tough spot with fans. Entertaining welterweight bouts against a legendary veteran or an unproven contender proves the jump in weight is feasible. The roadblock is the specific threat Haney presents on fight night.

Paulie Malignaggi offered some cover for Stevenson, contending that testing new waters against aging legends or beatable competition differs drastically from tangling with an elite operator at his peak. Malignaggi pointed out that Haney’s size, rehydration weight, and sheer physical strength could grind down Stevenson’s tactical advantages down the stretch.

Yet that defense only reinforces Bradley’s core issue. Stevenson viewed 147 as fair game when the matchups favored him. When faced with Haney, he suddenly sought caveats to neutralize his rival’s natural frame.

“But you weren’t saying that when it was Conor Benn, and you weren’t saying that when it was Manny Pac,” Bradley noted.

Bradley granted that behind-the-scenes talks get messy and that Stevenson gives up natural size against bigger men. Still, his irritation centers on the loud public challenges that vanish once real pen meets paper.

What makes Bradley even more critical is his firm belief that Stevenson can actually defeat Haney at 147 right now, relying on superior ring IQ and movement rather than demanding negotiated catchweights.

Even Malignaggi conceded that Stevenson boxed himself into a corner with his own rhetoric. Demanding that an opponent sign on the dotted line sets an expectation. Following up those bold declarations with sudden talk about needing time to adjust physically invites scrutiny every single time.

When a fighter constantly claims to be the best pound-for-pound talent in the world, the public expects that confidence to hold up regardless of who stands across the ring.

Willingness to meet a 47-year-old Pacquiao or an unpolished Benn at 147 proves the weight class itself was never the actual hurdle. The hesitation only showed up when the opponent was a prime, disciplined champion who rehydrates like a middleweight.

That makes the sudden demands for catchweights look less like sensible career management and more like calculated self-preservation. If the supreme self-belief were truly there, he would back his skills to outbox Haney anywhere, anytime, just like the greats did when chasing greatness.
