“I believe I have the desire, I have the distance, the height, I believe I have the power,” Espinoza told The Ring’s Mike Coppinger. “I’m not saying I’m going to knock him out, but I do have a lot of hope of being able to win that fight.”
“I’ve always wanted to fight there. So going there and winning would be the best.”

Rafael Espinoza is willing to take his WBO featherweight title to Japan to fight Naoya Inoue. The harder part could be getting selected when the Japanese star decides whether to move to 126 pounds.
Espinoza believes his height, reach, and power would give Inoue a difficult introduction to featherweight.
“I believe I have the desire, I have the distance, the height, I believe I have the power,” Espinoza told The Ring’s Mike Coppinger. “I’m not saying I’m going to knock him out, but I do have a lot of hope of being able to win that fight.”
That is a more interesting proposition than another fighter offering himself up for an Inoue payday. Espinoza would bring height, long arms, and a high output into a fight against someone accustomed to being the destructive puncher.
Getting past Espinoza’s reach would be only part of the job. Inoue would also need to deal with his punches at closer range, where the Mexican can keep working rather than waiting for room to extend his arms.
There is an opening for Inoue, too. Espinoza’s upright frame would give him plenty of body to attack. Being taller does not automatically mean being able to keep a smaller, quicker opponent outside.
Espinoza is also willing to concede home advantage.
“I’ve always wanted to fight there. So going there and winning would be the best.”
According to The Ring, Inoue has identified featherweight as a possibility for his first fight in 2027. However, a Jesse Rodriguez fight at 122 remains an option, while Bruce Carrington and Angelo Leo offer other championship routes at 126.
Espinoza first defends against Lorenzo Parra on October 31, on the Canelo Alvarez–Christian Mbilli card in Riyadh.
A win would keep him available. It would not guarantee Inoue chooses him. Espinoza has made his invitation clear; there is no indication yet that Inoue’s team intends to accept it.
