Grand Theft Auto VI is without a doubt the biggest game launching in November. In fact it’s the biggest game to release all year, or to go a step further, the decade.

Very few studios have wanted to challenge it, which is why it’s hilarious to see Godzilla, Barbie and now Shrek giving it fun for its money.

That’s right, the 2004 film tie-in game Shrek 2 is getting an official remaster for modern platforms. It launches on November 10 which is just nine days before GTA VI, and the game’s marketing has already used that fact to its advantage.

Take a look at the game’s reveal trailer below. It knew exactly what it was doing, and we love it for that.

Since the reveal trailer dropped we’ve learned a little more about the game through its store page listings, but one of its features made me sick to my stomach.

On the Xbox and Epic Games Store the game says its online multiplayer will support crossplay, meaning Xbox, PlayStation, PC and Nintendo Switch 2 players will all be able to game together.

That’s all fantastic and I’m glad to see it, though we now live in a world where a game like Shrek 2 Remastered has crossplay multiplayer, but games like Fallout 76 don’t…

Fallout 76 lacking crossplay was one of the main reasons my playthrough ended before it had really begun. The original goal was to play on my Xbox with a friend on PC, only to realise I had to be using Xbox on PC in order for that to work.

It’s not the only example either. GTA: Online is still thriving despite its replacement on the way, but again Rockstar Games never updated the online mode with crossplay support. Hopefully the next version of GTA: Online includes it as standard.

As entitled as it may sound, crossplay feels like the bare minimum nowadays and yet so many multiplayer games still don’t have it, which makes it hilarious that Shrek 2 Remastered does. The upcoming console release of PEAK features crossplay.

November 2026 is the month of GTA 6 ‘rivals’

Shrek 2 Remastered is one of the goofiest games to release in 2026 and yet it’ll be in good company next month.

You’ve got Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered for a start, which currently has a free demo available on PC now.

Then you’ve got the Barbie Rewind collection, an anthology of retro Barbie games from the Nintendo Entertainment System to the Game Boy Advance.

Finally you’ve got an actual rival; The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake. It won’t compete with GTA VI in terms of sales, but it’s going to make this year’s Game Awards very interesting…

GTA VI launches on November 19 and all joking aside there’s only one game in November 2026 that could even hold a candle to it. However, it’s still really funny to see Shrek, Godzilla and Barbie assembling like The Avengers in the weeks before its launch.
