Jalen Williams is headed for surgery and is likely out for the rest of the season.
The Oklahoma City Thunder guard suffered a fractured fibula and a dislocated left ankle in their win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday night, general manager Sam Presti announced. A specific timeline for his return is not yet known, and won’t be until after he undergoes surgery.
Fellow Thunder guard Cason Wallace has a torn labrum in his left shoulder and is also headed for surgery. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, both players are expected to be sidelined for several months and will miss most, if not the entire, rest of the 2026-27 campaign.
Williams was taken off the court at the Paycom Center on a stretcher in the final minutes of the Thunder’s 108-101 win over the Clippers on Sunday. He was fouled while going up for a dunk and landed awkwardly on his left leg, which crumbled underneath him as he came down.
The injury was gruesome, and a Thunder staffer quickly covered Williams’ left leg with a towel as others rushed in to tend to him. Several teammates leaned over him, too.
Williams was eventually lifted onto a stretcher and received a standing ovation from Thunder fans as he made his way out of the arena.

Kris Dunn was called for a flagrant foul for his hit on Williams.Shai Gilgeous-Alexander took the free throws for him, and the game then wrapped up normally.
The injury caused a pretty emotional scene on Sunday, and Gilgeous-Alexander teared up during his postgame interview on the floor.
“I have no doubt in my mind that he’ll be back and be better than he was before, just like how he handled the last couple of injuries,” Gilgeous-Alexander said, via The Oklahoman’s Justin Martinez. “It’s unfortunate, his luck so far, but he’s equipped for it. He’s a warrior.”
Williams played just 33 games last season due to various injuries, including a hamstring injury that impacted him during the Western Conference finals. Williams averaged 17.1 points and 5.5 assists per game last season. The 25-year-old is in the first year of a five-year, max $239 million deal with the Thunder. He had eight points and five assists on Sunday night.
Wallace, who also left Sunday’s loss early with his shoulder injury, is in his fourth season in the league this fall. He averaged a career-high 8.6 points and 2.6 assists per game last season.
Now with Williams and Wallace out recovering, the Thunder will have to play at least the majority of the rest of the regular season without them. Sunday’s win marked their third straight to open the year, so they are off to a good start despite the two major setbacks.
The Thunder will take on the Phoenix Suns on Monday night in their first back-to-back of the season.
