“Money” Moicano wants Dan Miragliotta to go f—k himself—he just doesn’t care enough to file the paperwork.
No. 8-ranked Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight contender Renato Moicano suffered a third-round technical knockout loss to Tom Nolan in the main event of UFC Halloween last night (Sat., Oct. 31, 2026) inside Meta Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada (watch highlights).
After initially refusing to blame Miragliotta or “start a war” over the controversial standup, Moicano has now confirmed that he will not formally appeal his loss to Nolan or seek punishment against the veteran referee.
The controversy began in the second round when Miragliotta inexplicably stood the fighters up while Moicano had Nolan’s back with a body triangle locked in and was landing short punches.
Nolan immediately capitalized, badly hurting Moicano with a knee and nearly finishing him before the bell. The Australian continued applying pressure in the third round, eventually reversing a takedown and unloading ground-and-pound until Miragliotta stopped the fight.
During a follow-up interview with MMA Fighting today, Moicano admitted that the call frustrated him and disrupted his focus.
“I was a little frustrated with the referee standing the fight up, too,” Moicano said. “I was a little frustrated, and frustration is a bad thing. But that’s it, it’s over. What can I do? There’s nothing I can do about it.”
Moicano said Miragliotta never warned him that the action could be restarted.
“It caught me by surprise,” Moicano said. “When he said, ‘Stand up,’ I don’t remember him giving any warnings. And even if he had given a warning, I saw a lot of people saying that’s in the rules, that it’s a new rule. I’ve never heard of that. I’ve never heard of anyone being stood up from mount or from someone’s back. It was the first time I’d ever seen it.
“I thought about complaining, but then I told myself, listen, focus on the fight,” Moicano continued. “But I clearly lost my focus.”
The Unified Rules allow referees to restart the action if neither fighter is making a meaningful or sustained effort to advance toward a finish. However, Moicano was hand-fighting, landing short strikes and attacking from one of the most dominant positions in mixed martial arts (MMA), leading UFC’s broadcast team and numerous fighters to condemn Miragliotta’s decision.
Despite the controversial call, Moicano will not file an official appeal with the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC). He also has no plans to request that Miragliotta be punished or prevented from officiating his future fights.
“I want him to go f—k himself, him and everyone else,” Moicano said. “I don’t give a shit.”
Still, Moicano refused to use Miragliotta as an excuse for the defeat. He acknowledged that he should have finished Nolan when he had the opportunity and credited the Australian for successfully defending his submission attempts.
Moicano has now lost three of his last four appearances, with a main-event submission victory over Chris Duncan serving as his lone win during that stretch. The 37-year-old revealed before UFC Halloween that he intends to complete his current contract and test free agency.
Following Saturday’s loss, the Brazilian finisher has two fights remaining on that deal.
