After the worst performance on the international stage since 2022, G2 Esports General Manager Romain Bigeard posted on Twitter the team’s scrim results at Worlds 2026. While the win rate was positive, around 58%, the data raised some concerns about how the team prepped during the most important tournament of the season.
G2 faced all LCK and LPL teams in scrims except AL
In the post, Romain wrote that “very often the result doesn’t tell the work behind” and confessed they “choked” the first Bo1. He explained that the roster became “hesitant to believe things will get better” when facing challenges. This explains why the team had a positive practice but wasn’t able to transfer it on stage.
Leading up to the Swiss stage, the LEC #1 seed had mainly scrimmed MKOI, C9, TL, and LYON. Interestingly enough, the team did not scrim Karmine Corp, who was also in the US during play-ins.
Once the Eastern teams joined around October 18-19, G2 started playing the LPL teams, scrimming against BLG, AL, and IG before their opening series against DK. The Bo1 was going smoothly until DK found a way to turn the tide around.
Since then, things started going on a downward trend. They had three close blocks with GEN, MKOI, and HLE, but still fell to TES in the third Bo1. The team then scrimmed Top Esports the following day, losing both blocks.
Interestingly enough, G2 then played against T1 with an impressive 5-2 record, and won 10 out of the 14 matches against Team Liquid, who, however, were also struggling and were knocked out by LOS.
The numbers suggest the team had potential in the tournament; however, the poor results on stage have seemingly affected the team’s form. On top of that, aside from the win against LOS, G2 had to face three strong Eastern teams (TES, DK, and HLE).
