Four French men are speaking out after they were targeted by what they say was a Muslim mob in a racist attack along with their friends for singing Catholic songs in public in the northern city of Rouen.

The victims, who were all white, said roughly two dozen attackers, dressed in black sweats and balaclavas, approached from behind, surrounded and pelted them with stones last Saturday in what one described as an “apocalyptic scene.”

The group had just finished dinner for one of the men’s birthdays and was heading toward a fair when they say they heard the attackers shout: “Come on, there are fascists here!”

“We were walking along, singing songs like Knights of the Round Table and others with Catholic overtones,” Martin, 24, one of the victims, told French newspaper Le Figaro.

The men, all around 25, said they were punched and kicked until they lost consciousness. They were hospitalized with broken noses, cheekbones and orbital bones.

Throughout the assault, the attackers allegedly yelled “dirty whites,” “dirty fascists,” “We’re gonna f–ing kill you” and even “I’m Muslim, I’m 16 and I’ll f–k up your mother,” the victims said.

“I was frozen with fear,” Martin recalled. “I saw my little brother being beaten up by 10 or 15 people. I was in a state of complete shock.”

“They had hatred in their eyes… their eyes were bloodshot. It was terrifying,” said Pierre-Alexis Michau, another victim, in an interview on French television. “It was a war scene, it was apocalyptic.”

Footage of the attack posted on social media captures the attackers shouting “bunch of white sons of b–ches” and “your grandma’s p–sy,” as a gang of black-clad assailants chases a white man attempting to flee, before violently hurling objects to the ground.

“The insults were clearly racist,” added Michau, describing the attackers as North African and around 16 to 18 years old. “We kept telling them, ‘We haven’t done anything to you, leave us alone, we mean you no harm.’”

Four of the men filed complaints Monday with Rouen prosecutors for “violence motivated by race, ethnicity, nationality or religion.” The prosecutor, Sébastien Gallois, said investigators were reviewing surveillance footage.

“These individuals took it upon themselves to police us. Because we were a group of boys wearing dress shirts and leather shoes, they mistook us for far-right nationalist activists. We were not allowed to exist in public spaces as white people,” Michau said.

“We were attacked because we were white, Catholic and French,” said another victim who did not reveal his identity out of fear for his safety.

The attack comes amid weeks of escalating street violence, where far-left rioters and immigrant groups have clashed with police, torched buildings and ransacked businesses, leaving nearly 4,000 people arrested, almost 1,200 security officers injured and more than 1,500 businesses looted or damaged.

“I’m not angry but saddened by this evil and by the inability to talk to one another. They treated us like enemies,” said a fourth victim.

According to a local police source, the same group of teenagers had already carried out a similar attack four days earlier, near the same fair.

“Their targets are the ‘petit bourgeois,’ whom they indiscriminately associate with fascists,” the source said, referring to “small bourgeoisie” or middle class.

According to French journalists, calls to “lynch white people” had been circulating on social media in the city — where immigration from Africa has doubled in recent years — in the past few weeks.

“I condemn without reservation the violence. No difference in belief or conviction can justify it,” said Rouen Mayor Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol.

In a formal statement on Wednesay, the Diocese of Rouen expressed its “strongest disapproval” of the violence and racist insults, pledging its “deep support” for the victims.
