Chelsea‘s first game since the sacking of Liam Rosenior as head coach saw them reach the FA Cup final as the Blues beat Leeds United 1-0 at Wembley.
With Calum McFarlane taking interim charge for the second time this season after Rosenior’s departure on Wednesday, Chelsea were much improved from the dismal showing in the 3-0 loss at Brighton and Hove Albion that brought about the end of his tenure.
They were rewarded for a strong start to the semi-final when Enzo Fernandez headed home Pedro Neto’s right-wing cross to break the deadlock, and that proved to be the telling contribution.
Leeds were more impressive in the second half, but clear-cut chances for Daniel Farke’s side proved few and far between, as their bid for a first FA Cup final since 1972-73 came up short.
Chelsea will face Manchester City in the final on May 16.

Leeds were denied a dream start by the reflexes of Robert Sanchez, who made a great save with his legs to keep out Brendon Aaronson’s effort after he was played through by Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Joao Pedro then hit the near post at the other end, before the control that Chelsea gained over the contest told as Fernandez beat Lucas Perri from close range, making the most of an outstanding delivery from Neto.
Pedro then fired wide on the turn as Chelsea sought to give themselves breathing room, but it was never required despite Leeds improving following the introductions of Anton Stach and Joe Rodon for the second half.
Stach forced another brilliant save rom Sanchez with a fierce drive, but Leeds were fortunate that Pedro dithered with the goal seemingly at his mercy following an excellent Chelsea move involving Malo Gusto and Fernandez.
Alejandro Garnacho had a strike deflected behind before the underwhelming Calvert-Lewin headed straight at Sanchez with the entire goal at which to aim.
Leeds did not get a better opportunity, and they will now turn their attention to Friday’s Premier League clash with relegated Burnley as they attempt to rubber stamp survival. That would still mark a successful season for Leeds. McFarlane will hope he can salvage Chelsea’s with victory over City in three weeks’ time.
