After more than five decades of waiting, dreaming and pleading, the New York Knicks have finally scaled the mountaintop. This calls for some generational partying.

An incredibly captivating playoff run culminates with a ticker-tape celebration Thursday, when these Knicks are feted by millions live from Manhattan. Expect rapture and rowdiness in equal measure. Mayor Zohran Mamdani saysthis could be the largest parade New York City has ever seen. Mitchell Robinson says he’s driving his monster truck in the motorcade. As Jadakiss would put it, everyone is outside.

How to watch the 2026 New York Knicks championship parade

  • Location: Lower Manhattan — New York
  • Date: Thursday, June 18
  • Time: 10 a.m. ET
  • TV: NBA TV (national); CBS 2, NBC 4, ABC 7, My9, MSG Network and SNY (regional)
  • Streaming: Fubo (Stream Free Now)

New York’s local CBS, NBC,ABC and Fox stations also have free live streams available on their websites for U.S. viewers.

The Knicks’ title push toggled between dominant beatdowns and surreal comebacks. They won 15 of their last 16 postseason games, closed out all four opponents on the road, and finished with the largest playoff scoring differential of any NBA champion. They also summoned an indelible 22-point fourth-quarter rally in the conference finals, and minted their unprecedented triumph in Game 4 of the NBA Finals from a 29-point hole. Astoundingly, New York overcame double-digit deficits in all five series duels.

Karl-Anthony Towns looked to the heavens. OG Anunoby extended “the Hand of God.” Jalen Brunson slew the giant to complete his hero’s arc — from second-round pick to finals MVP and franchise redeemer.

Thursday marks the first ticker-tape parade in Knicks history, even though the team won it all in 1970 and 1973. Then-mayor John Lindsay discontinued that pageantry and opted for smaller commemorations instead. The 1973 Knicks were honored with diamond jubilee medallions. According to The New York Times, attendance at City Hall Plaza came in around 2,000 fans.

Of course, this year’s event will completely dwarf that. The parade is set to begin at 10 a.m. near Battery Park, with the champs moving along the Broadway thoroughfare to City Hall. This is the traditional parade path for New York victors, formally known as the “Canyon of Heroes.” Municipal buildings will be lit in blue and orange as well.

Revelry is expected to conclude with Mayor Mamdani granting the team keys to the city.

New York’s last ticker-tape parade was in November, after Gotham FC won the 2025 NWSL title. Its last basketball parade came in October 2024 to honor the WNBA’s New York Liberty. And the most recent parade for a men’s sports team was on Feb. 7, 2012, which coronated the New York Giants’ Super Bowl XLVI conquest.

Two members of the Knicks have already paraded through New York ahead of Thursday’s blowout. Jose Alvarado, a Brooklyn native with Puerto Rican heritage, rode atop a float during the annual Puerto Rican Day Parade on Sunday afternoon. He was joined by Jordan Clarkson, a fellow rotation guard who just became the league’s first champion of Filipino descent.

A student petition to delay Thursday’s statewide exams was rejected by the New York State Education Department. Humid weather and scattered thunderstorms could also be in the forecast. Neither should hinder a massive turnout — local radio personality Tommy Lugauer predicted that 5 million fans will show up to greet their Knicks. Expectations are suitably high after each finals game drew wall-to-wall crowds across bars, bodegas and public parks.

“This is not a dream,” broadcaster Mike Breen said after the decisive Game 5. Reality is about to crystalize, beneath the confetti, underneath orange and blue skies.
