The 2017 blockbuster Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, starring Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, will leave Netflix in the United States on July 1.
The franchise dates back to 1995, with the first movie, titled Jumanji, featuring an ensemble cast of Robin Williams, Kirsten Dunst, David Alan Grier, Bonnie Hunt, Jonathan Hyde, and Bebe Neuwirth. It also had a spiritual sequel, Zathura: A Space Adventure, with Josh Hutcherson and Jonah Bobo in lead roles. The franchise returned in 2017 with Johnson and Hart leading the cast, which was a massive hit, grossing $961.6 million worldwide.
Jake Kasdan helmed the project, and the story followed: “Four teenagers are sucked into a magical video game, and the only way they can escape is to work together to finish the game.”
Besides Johnson and Hart, the star cast of the movie also included Karen Gillan, Jack Black, Rhys Darby, Nick Jonas, Bobby Cannavale, Alex Wolff, Ser’Darius Blain, Madison Iseman, and Morgan Turner.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was followed by a sequel in 2019 titled Jumanji: Next Level. The sequel features the returning cast alongside several new additions. New additions to the cast included Awkwafina, Danny DeVito, and Danny Glover. The film also had a special cameo from Bebe Neuwirth, who reprised her role as Nora Shepherd from the 1995 film at the end of the film. Moreover, unlike its predecessor, Jumanji: Next Level is still available to stream on Netflix.
Additionally, Johnson, Hart, and the rest of the cast are set to return with a new installment in the franchise titled Jumanji: Open World. The movie is scheduled to release on December 25, 2026, worldwide.
