A rare and unheard 27-year-old James Bond song from Coldplay may finally see the light of day, but with a twist. The globally acclaimed rock band hoped the track would appear in a James Bond film, but it was ultimately never used.
How is Coldplay’s unheard James Bond song being released?
A lost song’s demo recording from Coldplay has surfaced after a long gap of 27 years. The band hoped the song would be a part of Pierce Brosnan’s 1999 hit James Bond movie, The World Is Not Enough, but later confessed that it wasn’t really good enough, according to Variety. Now, it seems this lost song will be available soon for listeners, but only through an auction.
While it’s lacking a proper title, the song is simply named Unheard and unreleased. It will be auctioned as a single cassette recording. It was sung by Coldplay’s lead singer Chris Martin, featuring acoustic elements.
In the past, Martin has revealed that he and all other Coldplay members are huge Bond fans. On many occasions, they tried to pitch tracks for James Bond films. However, all of their attempts were unsuccessful. “We kept trying to write one for 20 years, but never submitted them,”he told NME during an interview. “We have Bond themes for about five movies, but they’re not very good, to be honest.”
Speaking more of the James Bond song from Coldplay, it’s part of an archive from the band’s recordings from British producer Chris Allison. The cassette, which includes the track and earlier recordings, predates the band’s second EP, The Blue Room.
The cassette also contains DAT mixes, alternate versions, and demos from The Blue Room. There’s also an unheard version of We Never Change. At the time of this article’s publication, the highest bid the cassette has received amounts to $1,000.
Whether the song becomes publicly available depends on the buyer, who may choose to release the recording after purchasing the cassette.
