A major CNN correspondent is expected to leave the network very soon. The news comes ahead of the network’s planned takeover by Paramount.
Why Paula Reid is departing CNN during a pivotal transition
Outlets such as Variety and Deadline report, citing sources, that Paula Reid, CNN’s chief legal affairs correspondent, is leaving the network. Reid reportedly had the choice to renew her contract but decided against it. Variety again cites sources to note that Reid made the decision amid “uncertainty of continuing to work at CNN as it faces a new future under different corporate management.”
As CNN is part of Warner Bros. Discovery, it will indeed have new owners once the company’s merger with Paramount Skydance completes. Status, a publication covering the media sector, previously reported on Reid’s planned exit from CNN.
Originally from Akron, Ohio, Reid received her bachelor’s degree in psychology and English from the College of William & Mary before enrolling at Villanova University School of Law, from where she graduated with a Juris Doctor. She subsequently passed the bar exams for both New Jersey and Pennsylvania (via PBS). Reid worked for CBS News before joining CNN.
Since Reid came to CNN, she has been a prominent part of the network. She covered the Supreme Court and federal and state investigations into high-ranking officials such as President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden.
In fact, she was one of the CNN journalists who broke the news that there was an audio clip that captured Trump speaking about the classified document he kept after his exit from the White House. Additionally, she has also served as a temporary substitute for various CNN anchors.
Variety states that Reid’s exit might prompt questions about what CNN will be during the Paramount era. As for Reid herself, it’s safe to assume she likely has contacts at CBS News from her time there. So, that appears to be a likely an option. Alternatively, as Variety speculates, she might opt for the “creator media” sector or even get more offers once she leaves CNN.
