Christopher Nolan says he would gladly work with Christian Bale again
Christopher Nolan has expressed his desire to reunite with Christian Bale on a future project. When asked during a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter if he and Bale could work together again, Nolan responded positively. Nolan directed Bale in three Batman films and The Prestige throughout their collaborative history.
“Oh, of course. He’s one of the great actors of his generation, and I’ve had tremendous experiences with him,” Nolan said. The director also confirmed plans to re-release The Prestige next year for its 20th anniversary. He revealed that the team will create 70-millimeter blow-ups of the original 35-millimeter anamorphic footage.
“I’m thrilled that they’re going to re-release The Prestige because it’s one of his most underrated performances,” Nolan added. He further praised cinematographer Wally Pfister’s extraordinary photography on the film. Nolan also highlighted Nathan Crowley’s production design as amazing work deserving of the larger format.
The director recently screened a 35-millimeter print to check its quality before the process begins. He plans to start the 70-millimeter blow-up process in the coming weeks. Nolan expressed excitement about bringing the film to fresh audiences through this re-release.
Bale starred as Alfred Borden in The Prestige and as Bruce Wayne across The Dark Knight trilogy. Their partnership produced some of the most commercially successful films in modern cinema. Nolan’s latest film, The Odyssey, even weaves references to Bale’s characters throughout its narrative.
The Odyssey debuted to $264 million at the worldwide box office over its opening weekend. It set Nolan’s global opening weekend record while earning $124 million domestically. The film stars Matt Damon as Odysseus and features Robert Pattinson among its ensemble cast.
