Many common car myths persist even though they’re entirely false.

There’s one in particular that requires a very specific clarification.
The wrong type of fuel won’t necessarily ‘kill’ your engine
There’s this myth that diesel cars can run on anything while gas vehicles require gas or they’ll just ‘die’ immediately.
Both are a little exaggerated.
Yes, technically, because of the way they’re designed, older diesel engines can run on a lot of things that aren’t diesel.
But it’s not like you can just use ice cream and expect results.
And as for gas vehicles, they won’t thank you if you accidentally put diesel in it, but this also won’t automatically ruin the engine forever.
You don’t necessarily need to warm up your vehicle
Contrary to what some people believe, modern vehicles have powertrains that are very sophisticated and therefore don’t require a lot of warming up.
A modern engine is generally fully lubricated in 30-60 seconds.
No need to wait for an extended period of time before you set off down the road.
Red cars don’t ‘cost more to insure’
Insurers use your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to determine the vehicle’s make and model, along with factors like your location, but paint color isn’t tracked.
A red car costs the same to insure as a black one, unless it is a red Ferrari and the black vehicle is a Toyota Prius.
Just sayin’.
One of the biggest car myths: premium fuel won’t do anything (but with a ‘but’)
This is one of the most expensive myths.
Premium fuel like high-octane gasoline won’t make the slightest bit of difference, but it will cost more money.
However, there’s a massive caveat.
Some cars are indeed designed to produce more power and work better on premium fuel.
Translated, if the vehicle in question is a regular everyday sedan, premium versus regular fuel won’t make a difference.
But if it is a Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear, it’s a different story.
No, birds don’t care about your car
Some apparently believe that birds specifically target clean cars, but that’s not true.
Birds don’t target anything at all.
They just fly and, well, do their business while they’re flying.
And they aren’t really strategically ‘targeting’ anything at all, despite how it might feel when you’ve just washed your car.
