This Polaris Slingshot really is the definition of ‘go big or go home’.
Likened to a ‘rolling concert’, it belongs to Tanya, a resident of Houston.
She’s named the car ‘The Black Mamba’ in honor of Uma Thurman’s steely-eyed assassin character in the Kill Bill series.
And like the blonde anti-hero herself, this car is just about the coolest thing you’ve ever seen.
You’ve got to love a car that makes a big impression
You never get a second chance at a first impression, and that adage is all the more true in the automotive world.
Let’s face it, a car that can turn your head on a busy street or in a dealership is the one that you’ll remember.
Some cars are attention grabbers thanks to their novelty, as was the case with this Chinese EV driving through the streets of London.
Others, like this one-off concept Lamborghini Egoista, let the car do all the talking.
And then there are the cars which make a statement just by being wonderfully weird – the see-through Pontiac from 1939 certainly fits the bill on that front.
But this Black Mamba? That’s an entirely different story.
The Black Mamba, the Polaris Slingshot fitted out with 16 speakers, doesn’t quite fit into any of the above categories.
But it is undeniably captivating.
This is a Polaris Slingshot with a difference
The standard Polaris Slingshot is already a distinctive-looking car.
It’s an open-top three-wheeler that wouldn’t look out of place in Batman’s line-up.
In all but one state, a standard driver’s license is enough to qualify you to drive the Slingshot.
In the one outlier – Massachusetts – you’d need a motorcycle license.
But for whatever intrigue comes with the standard Polaris Slingshot, the Black Mamba takes things to a whole new level.
What else would you expect for a vehicle kitted out with 16 speakers?
Tanya, the Black Mamba’s owner, didn’t hesitate in getting to work on making it stand out.
“When I first got the vehicle, it was a blank canvas. There were no speakers, no radio, nothing,” she told Supercar Blondie.
“Now, we have 16 speakers that are in custom hand-built pods, as well as two 15-inch subwoofers that are in a 3D-printed custom enclosure.”
As you might expect, Tanya gets a lot of eyes on her while she’s driving the Black Mamba.
“I usually get a bunch of phones up, or people start taking videos of me while they’re driving their vehicle,” she admitted.
“They’re pretty much amazed. And then when they hear it, it blows them away.”
Having 16 speakers and two subwoofers produces just as much noise as you’d expect.
But it’s not so much the auditory element that proves tricky sometimes, insofar as driving is concerned.
“The vehicle can be challenging to drive with all of the pods and the blind spots they create when I am trying to drive it,” Tanya said.
“But I would say the biggest challenge is making sure that I check the forecast before I leave home and don’t get caught in the rain.”
That’s a struggle every convertible owner can relate to.
