When this Floridian used his Tesla Cybertruck to tow his boat for two hours, it brought him to a damning conclusion.

Taking your boat to a lake is as American as apple pie.

But when you have a huge load behind you, you need a reliable car to get you from Point A to Point B.

Would the Cybertruck be that vehicle for this man?

Love it or loathe it, the Tesla Cybertruck is a distinctive vehicle

There’s no denying that the Cybertruck has made an impact in the years since it was released.

On the one hand, you can have its ardent critics who have branded it everything from a ‘cyber-disaster’ to the ‘biggest flop in automotive history’.

And then on the other end of the spectrum, its biggest fans are proudly decking it out in all sorts of creative wraps.

But leaving aside how it looks, we would expect to agree on one thing – this truck has some serious power within it.

It certainly looks the part of a towing titan, doesn’t it?

But as one YouTuber found, things weren’t so straight forward.

How did the Cybertruck cope towing this boat?

On the website, Tesla states that Cybertruck drivers can ‘haul everything you need with 2,500 pounds payload and 11,000 poundstowing capacity— the equivalent of an average African elephant’.

That’s quite the big promise.

But unfortunately for YouTuber Flying Wheels, it didn’t deliver.

Towing led to the truck losing a significant amount of power, requiring multiple charges throughout the trip.

That’s not ideal when you’re towing a boat behind you.

And not only that, but repeated visits to charging stations meant more money being spent.

In the ultimate insult to injury, he suggested the trip would have been easier if he’d used a diesel-powered engine.

That’s not what you want to hear if you’re a company making electric trucks.

“Moral of the story: do not tow with electric vehicles. They do not make sense; they are completely, completely impractical,” he declared.

“I had to charge twice today; had we towed the boat home, I probably would have had to charge two more times.

“So, is the truck awesome? Yes. Can you tow with it? Yes, it towed excellent.

Should you tow with it? No, because it is completely inefficient.”

This isn’t the first time towing has proven to be the Cybertruck’s undoing

Unfortunately, there is a track record of people being less than impressed with the Cybertruck’s towing capabilities.
