Mat Armstrong finally got a positive response from Bugatti, probably for the first time since the YouTuber embarked on his journey to fix both a Veyron and a Chiron.
Mainly for legal reasons, Bugatti disowned the operation because it believed that these cars couldn’t be fixed.
More importantly, the company believed they couldn’t be fixed safely and permanently.
But now, for the first time ever, there was some positive feedback.
A short recap of what happened
Mat Armstrong is pioneering and mastering the automotive sub-genre centered on buying cheap, written-off supercars and fixing them up.
The idea – on paper – is simple: you buy a supercar that appears doomed, fix it, and drive it.
Armstrong actually built a massive workshop with the money he made on YouTube.
At the time of writing, both the Bugatti Veyron and the Bugatti Chiron he wanted to fix are drivable.
The Chiron is far from ready, but the Veyron is, and Armstrong took it to France for a road trip.
Armstrong initially attempted to get Bugatti to help, but the company refused.
In Mate Rimac’s view, both cars were insurance write-offs, and couldn’t be fixed safely.
Now, there’s been an update.

The good news was that the Veyron has completed its trip to Monaco after a few expected hiccups for a 20-year-old hypercar fixed in a DIY workshop, including a cracked front splitter.
The thing is, on his way to Monaco, Armstrong also tried stopping at the Bugatti factory in Molsheim, in the north of the country, but it was shut and there was no one there.
A few days later, the French-Croatian automaker called after seeing the video of their failed attempt to visit.
A company representative explained that they ended up visiting the factory on Bastille Day, which is a public holiday in France, and invited Armstrong and his team for a proper factory visit in September.
This is possibly the first positive feedback he ever got from Bugatti.
It’s a start.
