Sadie Sink just made her MCU debut in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but audiences previously knew her from her time as Max Mayfield in Stranger Things. Now that the new Spider-Man sequel has climbed to the top of 2026’s box office, viewers will start associating her with a new role: that of Jean Grey. That’s right, her secret Spider-Man role is a segue into the MCU’s X-Men movie. And she does a great job of making the character her own, leaving fans excited to see what she’ll do next in the superhero franchise.
Speaking with Variety, Sink opened up about the part, which she’s been dodging questions about since her casting came out. She did tell a few people who she was playing in her personal life, though, including two familiar names from Stranger Things:
“So, my family knew and everything, and then I slowly … like the Duffers were some of the first few people I told. Because I was filming with them, and they’re obviously huge influences in my career and life, and have watched me grow up, so I wanted them to know that that’s what I would be doing next. And they were so excited.”
According to Sink, the Duffers “thought it was the right fit,” and she trusted their instincts. She noted that “they love comics and stuff like that, and are very well versed with these characters, so it was good to have their input.”

While Sink told the Duffer Brothers what she was up to in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, she wasn’t as forthcoming with her Stranger Things castmates. “I didn’t really tell anybody else about it,” she admitted, which makes sense. If Marvel Studios was going to such great lengths to ensure her role didn’t come out, she wouldn’t want to spread the news too much. It worked out well, as Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s Jean Grey introduction and twists are some of the MCU’s best in recent memory.
