On this day, 30 years ago, a Robin Williams film was released to theaters, and it would become one of the legendary actor’s worst movies.
August 9 marked the anniverssary of many popular films in history. This includes Pee-wee’s Big Adventure in 1985, Borderlands in 2024 and xXx in 2002. Saturday also marked the 35th birthday of Bill Skarsgard.
And on August 9, 1996, Williams’ comedy film Jack was released to theaters.
Jack follows a boy entering fifth grade who looks like a 40-year-old man because of a rare disorder that causes him to age four times faster than normal. The movie also stars Jennifer Lopez, Diane Lane and Bill Cosby.
The movie turned a decent profit, grossing over $58 million at the domestic box office on a $45 million budget. But the reviews did not measure up, earning as low as a 17% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Jack Named Among Robin Williams’ Worst Films
Williams became one of the most well-known Hollywood actors before his sudden passing in 2014. The Chicago native starred in many classic films throughout his career, including Good Will Hunting (1997), Dead Poets Society (1989) and Good Morning, Vietnam (1987).
But with the good come the bad, and Williams had a few. One of which was Jack, which ranked as the No. 9 worst Robin Williams movie ever by Business Insider.
Coming in as the worst film Williams made was Old Dogs (2009), which also starred John Travolta. The Big Wedding (2013) and License to Wed (2007) round out the top three.
