Anne Hathaway is sharing her thoughts on which movies deserve to be rated R. In a recent interview, the actress argued that any film that features the death of a dog should receive an R rating.
“I feel like movies that kill dogs should automatically be rated R,” Hathaway told Complex Pop. “It doesn’t matter if anybody curses. It doesn’t matter if there’s violence. If a dog dies: R-rated.” The actress’s The End of Oak Street co-star Ewan McGregor agreed with her stance, adding, “That’s it.”
Hathaway also revealed that a fan once asked her to confirm if the dog in The End of Oak Street makes it out alive. The actress assured, “It’s like we break the rules in his movie; that might not be one of them. Don’t worry.”
The Oscar-winning star also referenced the John Wick franchise that featured one of the most harrowing scenes of a dog’s death. “I think everybody’s so traumatized by John Wick,” she said. “Because I’ve been seeing those too, like, ‘They better not kill the dog.’”
Hathaway added, “I’m like, which movies are out there killing dogs? That everybody’s so scared that we’re just casually doing it in movies now.”
The End of Oak Street gives Anne Hathaway another intriguing role
Written and directed by David Robert Mitchell, The End of Oak Street is a sci-fi survival thriller. The movie follows a quiet suburban street that gets transported back to a prehistoric era by a mysterious cosmic event. Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor star as a married couple who live on Oak Street with their two kids.
Following the cosmic event, the Platt family now has to navigate their dangerous new surroundings. They must evade the dinosaurs that have appeared in their neighborhood while they look for their dog and a way to get back home.
This movie marks yet another exciting role for Hathaway, who has already taken the box office by storm with her other 2026 releases. This includes Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and The Devil Wears Prada sequel. The actress will also play the titular role in Verity, the upcoming psychological thriller adapted from Colleen Hoover’s novel of the same name.
