A man drove an 11-year-old Tesla Model S M85D with over 160,000 miles on the odometer to see if the EV was still a good buy in 2026.
YouTuber InsideEVs wondered if the car would feel ‘ancient’, as he put it in the description of the video.
The 2015 Tesla Model S was priced at an incredible figure, meaning it was almost too good to pass up.
But the YouTuber probably didn’t expect such a surprise when he got behind the wheel of the Model S.
How much was this 11-year-old Tesla Model S?
When new back in 2015, this particular Tesla Model S cost around €138,000, roughly $159,000.
However, the YouTuber said the owner picked the car up for just €21,000, around $24,000.
“This used to be the most expensive EV 10 years ago,” said the presenter of the car.
“The Tesla app says that this car has 86 percent of its original battery capacity,” he added.
So quite clearly, this EV has stayed healthy despite its range.
“It can still just about crack 300km, or 186 miles,” said the YouTuber, noting its current range.
For a car that has done over 160,000 miles over 11 years, that is still very impressive.
In fact, it shows that EVs can easily retain most of their battery capacity after over ten years.
How did this 11-year-old EV actually drive?
Of course, one of the biggest questions was: how well did the EV drive?
You may expect it to feel ancient compared to more modern cars with more battery capacity.
That is what the YouTuber even said they expected in the description.
However, the reality was very different.
The YouTuber hit the accelerator hard to see how fast the acceleration was.
Safe to say, it was quick. “Okay, that’s really fast,” he said after doing so.
There were one or two minor niggles, though.
Most notably was the air suspension, which did work, but there was a caveat.
“The owner says that the front will start sagging a little bit if it is left parked,” said the YouTuber, indicating a leak in the system.
There were other minor niggles such as a temperamental trunk soft-close, but overall, he was impressed.
Free lifetime charging is an added bonus for the Tesla Model S
Perhaps the best part of buying a car like this is the lifetime free charging.
This was an incentive Tesla offered to try and get people to buy into electric vehicles.
Incredibly, though, if you sell the EV, that transfers over, as it is tied to the vehicle, not the owner themselves.
As the YouTuber said in the video, the owner stated they had saved nearly €6,000 in Supercharging costs.
That is around $7,000 in fuel savings, thanks to the charging incentive.
“I’ve driven a lot of EVs, and they are all great. And this doesn’t feel like it’s a million miles away,” concluded the YouTuber.
Despite its age, this Tesla is very much still an excellent car, available at an incredible price.
