Montreal Victoire forward Dara Greig was set to have a “bringing it home” ceremony where she shepherded her Professional Women’s Hockey League trophy around her hometown of Lethbridge in the Canadian province of Alberta on Thursday.
But it was postponed.
Because the Walter Cup is missing.
The official Walter Cup, presented when the Victoire beat the Ottawa Charge in four games to win the PWHL championship in May, is housed in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. Each championship-winning team, however, is issued its own version, and now Montreal’s is missing.
“The Walter Cup keeper trophy awarded to the Montreal Victoire did not arrive as expected at its latest stop on the team’s tour,” the PWHL said in a statement. “We are working closely with the shipping company to locate it.”
The trophy was scheduled to be in Lethbridge, Alta., for Greig’s hometown celebration, including an event at VisitLethbridge.com Arena.

The PWHL was formed in August 2023, with its inaugural puck drop Jan. 1, 2024. It was founded with six teams, which grew to eight in the 2025-26 season. The Minnesota Frost won the first two championships, and Montreal in 2026 became the first Canadian team to win the Walter Cup.
Tiffany & Co. designed the sterling silver cup. It is approximately 24 1/2 inches high, 13 inches wide and 12 1/2 inches long, weighing 35 pounds.
The trophy’s design was intended for a specific purpose.
“There was no debating whether it needed to be a cup,” PWHL senior vice president of hockey operations Jayna Hefford exclusively told The Athletic’s Hailey Salvian in 2024. “It needed to be something that you could drink out of. That was a non-negotiable with us.”
While its NHL counterpart, the Stanley Cup, has full-time handlers when it travels, the Walter Cup doesn’t have such protections. Now Greig will have to wait to unveil it to her hometown until it can be found.
The trophy is named after PWHL founder Mark Walter and his wife, Kimbra. Mark Walter, owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, recently agreed to sell his majority share of the Los Angeles Lakers to Bob Iger and Joshua Kushner for a valuation of $12.5 billion, a year after he bought the shares for a $10 billion valuation.
