This man DoorDashed in the celebrity neighborhoods of the Hollywood Hills to see how much he could make in tips – and he walked away with a good payday.
Brandon aimed to make more than $200 in order to cover the cost of a local hotel room.
Having acquired the addresses of several celebrity homes, he set out on his e-bike in a mission to make some cash.
More and more people are finding work in the ‘gig economy’
Increasing numbers of people are working in the gig economy, whether that’s as Uber drivers or doing temp work in the hospitality industry.
DoorDash has quickly become one of the most popular platforms for this growing job market, with more than two million Americans working as DoorDash couriers, according to QuerySprout.
Whether by car, by bike or by scooter, these hard-working Dashers aim to get deliveries to customs on time.
For several, their perseverance has been rewarded in ways that go beyond a good review.
After 100,000 deliveries, one Dasher was rewarded with a brand new car.
Another Dasher received a lifechanging reward after an unfortunate misunderstanding with a customer.
But even without the additional perks, DoorDash couriers can make some good money in their line of work.
One YouTuber wanted to see if he could pull in $300 over one day, and he ended up exceeding that.
Would DoorDashing in Hollywood Hills pull in the big bucks?
Brandon, the host of YouTube channel iamBrandon, wanted to see if he could cover the costs of a local hotel room in the Hollywood Hills area.
That would be around $200, so not cheap.
Having acquired some addresses used by a Hollywood celebrity bus tour, he now had a rough idea of where the big stars lived.
We’re talking the likes of Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, and Justin Bieber.
First up was the breakfast shift, in which he was forced to navigate bumpy roads all while carrying a large soda.
“Oh no, I have a large soda. This is not good. Who orders a large Coke for breakfast? That’s absolutely absurd,” Brandon remarked.
He managed to pick up $37 in tips over the first three hours of riding, but there was just one problem – his e-bike battery was down to 50 percent.
Over the lunch shift, he had to contend with pizza boxes that barely fit inside his backpack.
Fortunately, the tips kept rolling in.
At one point, he left his e-bike at the bottom of a step hill in order to deliver partially melted ice cream to a secluded hilltop mansion.
It just goes to show that this is a job that requires adaptability.
As the evening drew closer, disaster struck as his e-bike’s battery completely died.
With no active hours for over an hour and two sore legs, he had to think of something fast.
Did he make enough to pay for a hotel room?
Ultimately, he decided on renting a motorized Lime bike and carrying on with his deliveries.
“Renting the Lime bike and using it to Door Dash… It’s high risk, high reward, but I have no other option,” he concluded.
Fortunately, the busy dinner rush proved to be his saving grace, as it pushed him above his tip target.
With $214 to is name, he checked into a hotel room for the night.
When he awoke, he only had $4 to his name, and decided he would spend it on a souvenir.
However, a visit to a Hollywood tour shop dashed those hopes swiftly, when he realized the cheapest item there cost $9.99.
So he left the Hollywood Hills empty-handed – and with what we can imagine were very sore legs.
