Months after struggling to recoup its budget, the film is staging an unexpected comeback on streaming, climbing into Amazon Prime Video’s most-watched rankings.
Good Fortune is a streaming hit on Prime Video
As of September 1, 2026, Good Fortune holds the No. 6 spot on Amazon Prime Video’s overall Top 10 chart in the United States. It sits among recent popular titles like Reacher and The Last Sunrise, while claiming the No. 4 position specifically among movies, competing with Masters of the Universe and Project Hail Mary (via Flix Patrol).
The Aziz Ansari-directed project, his feature directorial debut, stars Keanu Reeves as an angel named Gabriel, alongside a cast that includes Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer, and Sandra Oh. Despite opening in theaters on October 17, 2025, the movie collected only $26 million globally against a $30 million production budget.
The plot follows Arj, played by Ansari, a struggling man living out of his car who works odd jobs for wealthy clients, including Jeff, played by Rogen. When Arj hits rock bottom, he encounters Gabriel, a guardian angel who attempts to teach him that wealth does not guarantee happiness. Gabriel swaps Arj’s life with Jeff’s, but the plan backfires spectacularly when Arj’s problems largely disappear. Gabriel loses his wings, and the angelic work he performed begins unraveling around him.
Critical response leaned positive. The film holds a 79% Tomatometer score and an 80% Popcornmeter rating. Reviews generally praised the chemistry among the cast and Ansari’s comedic sensibility, though those assessments did not translate into box office momentum last fall.
Ansari developed the project after Searchlight Pictures suspended his previous directorial effort, Being Mortal, in 2022. He specifically aimed to create an original theatrical comedy, citing Barbie’s 2023 success as evidence that audiences still craved such films. Rogen, a longtime friend, inspired several elements of the story and joined the production shortly after Being Mortal was shelved.
The movie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6, 2025, before Lionsgate released it domestically. Now, streaming audiences are discovering what theatrical crowds missed.
