Keke Palmer’s overlooked thriller Alice is leaving Netflix later this month, as reported by What’s on Netflix. The 2022 film is scheduled to be removed from the streaming platform on September 30, 2026. Thus, viewers have limited time to watch the film before it departs.
Krystin Ver Linden wrote and directed Alice, which premiered in the United States on March 18, 2022. The movie centers on Alice, an enslaved woman living on a secluded plantation in rural Georgia under Paul’s control. Following a violent confrontation with Paul, she escapes the plantation and makes her way through the surrounding woods.
Her journey takes an unexpected turn when she reaches a highway and discovers it’s 1973. The discovery changes what Alice knows about her circumstances. She is helped by Frank, a political activist, who introduces her to the realities of life beyond the plantation. Alice also begins to understand the circumstances that kept her in bondage and learns about the struggle for Black liberation.
Palmer leads the cast as Alice, with Common playing Frank and Miller portraying Paul Bennett. The supporting cast features Gaius Charles as Joseph, Alicia Witt as Rachel, and Madelon Curtis as Mrs. Bennett.
The film received a mixed response from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, Alice has a 28 percent critics’ rating based on 68 reviews. Meanwhile, its audience rating is stronger at 60 percent. Common Sense Media reported, “Based on the wild true story of Black Americans who were still enslaved as late as 1963, this is a surprisingly good film.”
