Baywatch Season 2 is already gaining momentum, and the show hasn’t even premiered yet. Fox’s upcoming reboot doesn’t debut until January, but Los Angeles officials are already planning for its return. That early confidence is strong behind-the-scenes support for the series, even as the network holds off on any formal decision.
Baywatch Season 2 renewal is entirely possible after new update
LA’s chief film liaison, Steve Kang, told city council members on Wednesday that the production plans to come back. “I can say with confidence that they are very happy with the concierge service that we were able to provide [on Season 1], and they will be returning to Los Angeles for a second season next year,” Kang said.
That’s not an official Fox pickup, and Deadline’s sources claim the network won’t make a renewal call until it sees how Season 1 performs after its January premiere. Even so, Fox executives reportedly feel good about the show, and the city’s early planning shows how hard LA fought to land it in the first place.
The numbers explain the enthusiasm. Baywatch pulled a $21.1 million tax credit from the California Film Commission, 40% of its production budget. The city also cut through red tape across county and regional jurisdictions so the show could film at the historic Venice Lifeguard Operations Station.
Councilwoman Traci Park, who represents the 11th district, tied the discussion straight to a potential renewal. “Now we know Baywatch is going to be back for Season 2…are there some things that we took from that experience, changes that we can make, operational changes that might be helpful?” she asked. Her question came during the first meeting of the Ad Hoc Committee on Film, Entertainment, and Creative Industry. Chaired by Adrin Nazarian, the committee wants to streamline permitting, lower fees, and pull more production back to Los Angeles. The Baywatch reboot gave lawmakers a live case study in what works.
