A left hook buckled Benn’s knees and forced him to grab Ryan. Benn recovered and resumed his attack, only to duck directly into a right uppercut. His pressure created action, but it also left enormous holes for a faster and more accurate puncher to exploit.
Benn Never Saw The Right Hand
Round two brought the finish. Benn continued marching into range, and Ryan dropped him with a heavy overhand right. The challenger beat the count, but Garcia immediately closed the distance and unloaded as Benn tried to defend himself.
Referee Thomas Taylor jumped between them at 1:25. It was a quick stoppage after only one knockdown, and Benn had every reason to complain. He was hurt, but he was upright, alert, and attempting to answer Ryan’s follow-up attack. Taylor denied him the opportunity to fight his way out of trouble.
That early intervention also deprived Ryan of a cleaner finish. Benn had already been staggered in the first and dropped in the second. Garcia was finding him with hooks, uppercuts, and right hands because Benn attacked without protecting himself on the way inside.
Benn’s weight cut did him no favors, but poor defense was the bigger issue. He weighed 146 pounds for his first fight at welterweight since 2022, then fought as if Ryan possessed nothing beyond the left hook. The right hand that ended the night was not hidden or tricky. Benn simply walked onto it.
Ryan Answers His Critics
After the loss to Rolly Romero and the chaos surrounding the Devin Haney no-contest, Ryan needed a performance that reminded people why he remains one of boxing’s most dangerous punchers. He delivered it with speed, timing, and enough patience to let Benn destroy his own title challenge.
Garcia (26-2, 21 KOs) completed the first defense of the belt he won from Mario Barrios in February, while Benn’s first world title opportunity ended in less than five minutes.
Ryan is still champion. Benn may insist Taylor saved Garcia the trouble of finishing the job, but the challenger was hurt in both rounds and never found an answer for the speed coming back at him.
