Shrek fans will get to experience the original movie in a whole new way ahead of the upcoming sequel. According to a recent report, a new edition of the franchise’s first film will premiere soon in a shared reality space.
As Deadline reported, Cosm will kick off a multi-film partnership deal with Universal Studios by premiering a reimagined version of Shrek Part 1 in the company’s LED dome screen. Universal Film, DreamWorks Animation, and the visual effects studio Reel FX have collaborated on the project.
The companies have stated that this experience will allow audiences to step into areas such as Shrek’s Swamp, Duloc’s Arena, the Kingdom of Far Far Away, and Dragon’s Keep. In addition, fans can experience the adventure alongside Shrek, Donkey, Princess Fiona, and other beloved characters.
Cosm is a shared-reality company founded in 2020. The premiere of Shrek in the dome will also mark the first animated movie to debut at Cosm. It will maintain the traditional 16:9 aspect ratio, with the LED dome activated throughout the screening.

Shrek 5 is currently dated for 2027, here’s what we know so far
The news of the upcoming Shrek Shared Reality comes before the release of Shrek 5. The franchise’s sequel follows the titular character and Donkey as they team up for another whirlwind big-city adventure, while introducing Shrek and Fiona’s three children.
Shrek 5 is directed by Conrad Vernon, Walt Dohrn, and Brad Ableson. Michael McCullers wrote the screenplay based on a story by Christopher Meledandri. The ensemble includes Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, Zendaya, Marcello Hernández, and Skyler Gisondo.
Tickets to experience Shrek in Shared Reality at Cosm will go on sale this fall. Shrek 5 will be released in theaters on June 30, 2027.
