Tony Ferguson has experienced the Misfits Boxing culture a couple of times, but ahead of his third promotional matchup, “El Cucuy” wasn’t feeling it.
Ferguson is set to defend his Misfits middleweight title against short notice opponent Mahmoud Sebie at Saturday’s event in Miami. As near-brawls, wild trash talk, and even a boxer stealing his opponent’s girlfriend happened during Thursday’s press conference, Ferguson got on the microphone and sent a message to the those who were causing trouble.
“What I do is I represent myself very well,” Ferguson said. “I go out there, I don’t have to be an influencer and cause all this bullshit. My kids had to walk out because you guys are f*cking up. You guys want to do this for views and stuff? Imagine your kids later on watching this shit. That’s the f*cked up part.”
Eventually, influencer Dad — who faces Cherdleys on the card — responded to Ferguson to try and lighten the mood a little bit.
“Are you talking to me, Tony?,” Dad said.
“Oh, yeah. I’m going to kick your ass afterwards, too,” Ferguson replied. “Seriously, you’re not going to give a f*ck. I don’t care. Look, these guys that are watching your stuff are going to be the ones leading the country.”
Ferguson isn’t the only past UFC title holder competing at the event as former two-division champ Henry Cejudo headlines against Wanna Walton in his Misfits debut.
Having been a part of the UFC machine for so long, Ferguson compared the two types of press conferences.
“I was just sharing with Henry we never see this stuff in the UFC or anywhere else,” Ferguson said. “I had my headphone in listening to some good music and saying my prayers over here, I think I was saying the rosary too.
“I was saying a prayer for everybody here to kind of find some peace, but other than that, I’m here to fight. I’m here to box.”
