Despite the cancellation of Spider-Noir, it seems Sony isn’t done with its plans to bring Spider-Man to TV. According to a new report, Sony Pictures is developing a new Spider-Man TV show inspired by Marvel’s Clone Saga, which was a polarizing storyline.
A report from Deadline reveals that Prime Video is nearing a series order for the show, which will focus on Ben Reilly and Kaine Parker. The trade’s sources report that while it will be inspired by the comics, the show will take a lot of creative liberties.
What we know about Prime Video’s Clone Saga series so far
The upcoming series is being written by Kelvin Yu, creator of American Born Chinese and a writer on Bob’s Burgers. However, how the show will deal with the Spider-Man clone saga series differs based on conflicting reports from sources. In the Marvel comics, the clone saga refers to three different storylines.
The second clone saga introduced readers to Ben Reilly as the Scarlet Spider, with Marvel revealing in a controversial twist that he is the original Spider-Man, with Peter Parker being a clone. The saga sees Peter and Ben face off against the Jackal and Kaine, who was a failed clone of Peter’s. Most recently, Marvel made Miles Morales the star of his own clone saga.
One source reported that it will follow Ben and Kaine dealing with their “newly discovered identities as clones” while also facing off against other clones. Another source claims that the show might change the characters’ origin stories, giving them new identities.
Like Spider-Noir, the show is planned to debut on Amazon’s MGM+ before making its way to Prime Video. Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, and Christopher Miller are expected to executive produce the Clone Saga series with Yu. The report also reiterates that Amazon MGM Studios and Sony TV are developing multiple Spider-Man projects.
The untitled Spider-Man Clone Saga series does not have a release date.
