The Social Reckoning star says safeguards are needed for major technology companies
Jeremy Allen White, star of The Social Reckoning, advocates for third-party regulation of major technology companies. The actor shared his views in an interview with Variety ahead of the film’s October 9 U.S. release. He called the Aaron Sorkin-directed film “incredibly important” and stressed the need for safeguards.
White plays Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz in the legal thriller. The film dramatizes the 2021 Facebook leak by whistleblower Frances Haugen. Mikey Madison stars as Haugen, while Jeremy Strong portrays Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
White acknowledged the limits of his own expertise on the subject. “There needs to be safeguards in place,” he said during the interview. He added that “third-party regulation for a lot of these big tech companies might be a good idea.”
The actor also admitted uncertainty about implementation details. “I don’t know exactly how that would work. There are smarter people than I that can talk about it,” he said. However, he remained firm in his position, stating, “That’s what I hope for, for sure.”
The Social Reckoning serves as a sequel to the 2010 film The Social Network. Sorkin wrote, directed, and co-produced the project alongside Todd Black and Stuart M. Besser. Additionally, the film had its world premiere at the Curzon Mayfair Cinema in London on September 29. Meanwhile, principal photography took place in Vancouver from October to December 2025.
Notably, the production carried a reported budget of $50 million. Bill Burr, Wunmi Mosaku, Billy Magnussen, and Betty Gilpin round out the supporting cast. Furthermore, Jeff Cronenweth returned as cinematographer after working on the original film. Alexandre Desplat also composed the musical score, replacing Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross from the predecessor.
