The Detroit Pistons provided an update on center Jalen Duren’s hamstring injury on Sunday, stating they’ll re-evaluate him in another two weeks, though he has been cleared for on-court basketball activity.
If Detroit sticks to that timeline, it would be Sunday, Nov. 22, when the Pistons play the Atlanta Hawks in the first game of a quick two-game road trip.
Duren initially suffered the injury on Friday, Oct. 23, against the Miami Heat. He picked it up in the second quarter and did not finish the game. He’s now missed seven consecutive games with the injury.
Without Duren in the lineup, the Pistons are 4-2 and most recently lost 112-106 to the Philadelphia 76ers. If Duren returns in two weeks, he will be back just in time for Detroit to face the Atlanta Hawks on the road on Nov. 22.
The Detroit center has played in just two games so far this season, averaging 13 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2 assists per game. The former first-round pick was named an NBA All-Star for the first time in his career last year after managing career highs in points (19.5), helping lead the Pistons to the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference before falling to the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Duren was a hot topic over the offseason as he and the Pistons struggled to agree on a long-term contract extension. While trade rumors swirled, Detroit got the deal done, signing him to a five-year, $200 million extension that keeps him under contract through the 2030-2031 season.
The Pistons will next face the Los Angeles Lakers at home on Sunday night.
