Gary Neville on Michael Carrick’s future: ‘The ownership don’t have a clue’
Gary Neville has claimed the Manchester United “don’t have a clue what to do” as they consider the future of Michael Carrick over the international break.
“Michael could leave, Michael might stay, we don’t know, the ownership don’t have a clue what to do,” Neville said on NBC.
Neville said he did not think sacking Carrick would change anything, highlighting that United have had seven permanent managers since Sir Alex Ferguson departed.
“None of it has worked because if you recruit badly, if you’ve got poor performance department, poor recruitment department, you’ve not got leadership that is strong right through the spine of the football club you will fail.
“Every organisation in the world will fail if you’ve not got an aligned leadership from top to bottom – your board and your ownership right the way through to the person who is stood on the pitch trying to play football.
“There are real issues within that football club, you’ve got people doing those jobs who have never done those jobs before in senior positions.”

Michael Carrick has painfully awkward exchange with interviewer over Man United future
Michael Carrick endured an awkward end to a post-match interview as he had an excruciating exchange about his future as Manchester United manager.
Carrick firstly bristled slightly when asked if United are looking at a relegation fight, saying: “No, we’re in November. I don’t like this situation we’re in, I don’t like the results we’ve had but we can definitely do something about it.”
From there, things got worse, as reporter Patrick Davison asked a lengthy question suggesting there were clearly going to be conversations about his future during the international break over the next couple of weeks, to which Carrick simply responded: “Is there?”

Unai Emery unhappy with timing of Man United’s late equaliser
The Aston Villa manager told Sky Sports: “They scored in minute 96 and there were six minutes added. I think the match was finishing. They scored the goal in minute 96. You were making the question [about why] I left before. Because the minute 96 and 30 seconds, was when we started the kick-off. My English is so poor, but it’s clear or not?”

Matheus Cunha left ‘tired and disappointed’ by Man United draw
Matheus Cunha was in no mood to celebrate Manchester United snatching a 4-4 draw against Aston Villa.
“So tired. I feel so disappointed,” he told Sky Sports.
“After the other night we talked a lot about how to concede goals and then be there and then change our mentality to come into the game. And then we did it again, we conceded some goals. We can’t do it. We need to play like Manchester United and go forward.
“[We need] a little bit more courage, like how to play, and then always we do this after the concede goals. We show a character after concede goals, but if you do this a little bit before, I feel like we can win much more games.”

Michael Carrick on Manchester United’s 4-4 draw with Aston Villa
“Disappointed we haven’t won the game. I thought we were the better team for large parts of the game. We’ve given them… we’ve made it difficult for ourselves with the goals that we’ve given away.
“Not just giving away one… but it’s kind of two [games] in succession that put us in such a difficult position.
We did it the other night, We did it again today, and then come back into the game. We could have won it in the end, so I’m disappointed that we haven’t won the game.”

Michael Carrick expects to keep ‘working’ on turning Man United’s form around
There was a slightly tetchy end to Michael Carrick’s interview with Sky Sports, but the Manchester United said he expects to keep working with his players over the international break.
He said: “We haven’t won enough games, but I expect to move forward and keep working on things that we’ve been working on and showing a lot of the good in the game today, tighten up on a few mistakes and win football matches.”

Man United’s unique comeback leaves no one knowing how to feel
As the Manchester United players who had been told they were not fit to wear the shirt, in perhaps the earliest ever airing of that chant in footballing history, celebrated a second ridiculous comeback in five days, the Stretford End launched into a different chorus.
They had told the team they were unworthy of representing them after a mere five minutes, had cheered in damning fashion when the dreadful Diogo Dalot was substituted, had been vitriolic about the Glazer family, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Jason Wilcox. But United left the pitch in the relegation zone while their supporters serenaded Michael Carrick.
“It’s hard to believe it’s not Scholes,” they sang. In one respect, it was hard to believe it was not Sir Alex Ferguson, plucking results from nowhere. In another, it was hard to believe this was not the prelude to a sacking.
It may still be. United have one win in 11 games, one point in three in the Premier League but Carrick is starting to specialise in escapology. Bournemouth had seemed the end for him, Roma looked it when his side were 2-0 down. Aston Villa seemed his valedictory game twice, before two two-goal comebacks.

Did Senne Lammens foul Zion Suzuki for Man United equaliser?
Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens was forward for the late corner, and appeared to make no attempt to win the ball from the Bruno Fernandes cross. He instead looked to block Zion Suzuki from gathering the cross, which left Patrick Dorgu free to score the equaliser.
Certainly, Villa will not be happy.

Man United’s unique Premier League comeback
According to Opta, Manchester United are the first team in Premier League history to trail by two goals and level twice in the same game.
It was that kind of night. No one is really sure what to make of it.

Man United to spend international break in bottom three
Despite rescuing a point, Manchester United remain in the Premier League’s bottom three and will remain there for the international break. It’s just one win from 10 games this season, but a 4-4 draw against Aston Villa still sounds a lot better than a 4-2 defeat.
