Donald Trump reportedly earned millions from Amazon’s Melania documentary. This information was revealed in his 2025 financial disclosure report.
How much money did Donald Trump pocket for the Melania movie?
According to Variety, Amazon MGM Studios acquired the license for the Melania documentary for $40 million. From this amount, $10.71 million was received by Trump alone as income, who previously called his wife a “Movie Star.”
Furthermore, the president’s financial disclosure also listed a $521,000 licensing payment from Skyhorse Publishing for the 2024 memoir, Melania. Additionally, $6 million was reported from NFTs and other collectibles associated with the First Lady.
The Trumps’ financial disclosure reported at least $2.2 billion in revenue for 2025. For the $40 million deal, Amazon has been accused of favoring the Trump administration, with democrats calling it a “bribery in plain sight.” In response, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos said the deal “appears to have been a good business decision.”
Apart from the $40 million, the studio also spent around $35 million to market the movie, bringing the production cost up to $75 million. However, the movie underperformed during its theatrical run, earning only $16.6 million worldwide. This documentary was later released on Prime Video.
The documentary was directed by Brett Ratner. The synopsis reads, “MELANIA offers unprecedented access to the 20 days before the 2025 Presidential Inauguration-through the First Lady’s eyes. Step inside Melania Trump’s world as she orchestrates inauguration plans, navigates the White House transition, and moves her family back to Washington. Featuring exclusive footage of critical meetings, private conversations, and never-before-seen environments.”
Executive producers include Marc Beckman and Fernando Sulichin. The documentary also features Hervé Pierre, Adam Lippes, Peter Sohn, Aiko Mizutori, David Monn, Tham Kannalikham, Yaqi Sun, Hayley Harrison, and Gabrielle Daymond.
It was first released at the Kennedy Center on January 29, 2026. This was followed by a theatrical release on January 30. As part of the deal, Amazon MGM Studios will release an episodic docuseries as a follow-up to the political documentary.
