On the heels of Supergirl, director Craig Gillespie joins forces with Marvel and Weapons star Julia Garner for a new adaptation. Stuart Zicherman, whose previous credits include The Americans and Lights Out, will serve as the showrunner and an executive producer on the TV series.
Guilty Creatures adapts Mikita Brottman’s true-crime book for Apple TV
Apple TV is making a TV show based on Mikita Brottman’s true-crime book Guilty Creatures: Sex, God, and Murder in Tallahassee, Florida. Titled simply as Guilty Creatures, the series’ official logline states that it focuses on “the psyche of a torrid romance and subsequent act of murder between two young, adulterous but God-fearing lovers, unraveling their complex lives and the emotional toll of living as killers for 18 years” (via Variety).
Gillespie, fresh off helming DCU’s Supergirl, will direct the series and serve as an executive producer through his Fortunate Jack Productions banner. Sarah DeLappe, who previously worked on comedy slasher Bodies Bodies Bodies and political satire miniseries The Regime, is shouldering the writing duties. She will also executive-produce, as will Garner through the Alma Margo label.
Additionally, Tomorrow Studios’ Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements and Alissa Bachner will EP along with Annie Marter of Fortunate Jack and Brottman. Notably, it was Tomorrow Studios, a producing partner of ITV, that put together the project and approached Apple TV.
Garner is one of the most in-demand actresses in the industry today. Her breakout role was Ruth Langmore in Netflix’s crime drama series Ozark, for which she earned multiple Primetime Emmy Awards.
She also played various roles in FX’s The Americans and Bravo’s true crime series Dirty John. Garner portrayed Shalla-Bal / Silver Surfer in the MCU feature The Fantastic Four: First Steps. She starred as Justine Gandy in Zach Cregger’s 2025 horror film Weapons.
Meanwhile, besides Supergirl, Gillespie’s credits include Lars and the Real Girl; Fright Night; I, Tonya; and Cruella. Guilty Creatures currently doesn’t have a release date.
