The official Avengers: Doomsday trailer has triggered a major fan debate over the scrapped Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. The now-canceled Marvel Cinematic Universe project would have featured Jonathan Majors in the role of the primary antagonist. However, the actor was removed from the franchise following a legal controversy in his personal life.

The long-awaited trailer for Avengers: Doomsday has finally arrived, and many ardent viewers cannot get enough of it. The upcoming superhero movie will bring Robert Downey Jr. back to the franchise, though he will be stepping into the menacing role of Victor von Doom.
While a majority of the fan base is incredibly hyped, others remain less enthusiastic about the sudden pivot. They believe that the Kang Dynasty angle should have been pursued instead of the upcoming project.
One fan, named @driftyfilm, on X, expressed his disappointment, saying, “Am I the only one that would be way more hyped for Kang Dynasty than Avengers Doomsday?”
The same user mentioned that he was extremely hyped for the Kang storyline, “but Doom feels out of nowhere and just empty for hype. They built Kang through so many projects and could’ve recast Majors with a variant.”
Another fan, @kingtrelll, echoed a similar sentiment, mentioning that a Kang Dynasty movie could have been amazing. He wrote, “The possibilities woulda been crazy, but they did him no justice in Quantumania.”
One more fan, named @K3DthePro, pointed out that Marvel should have stuck with The Kang Dynasty storyline instead of announcing Doomsday. They wrote, “MCU should have just recast Kang. That’s my main criticism. Kang is a character you can get away with recasting.”
However, one user, @CourtneeHendrix, expressed big relief at getting Doomsday instead of a Kang film. “I never wanted an Avengers Kang movie in the first place. I always asked for Doom”, they wrote.
Avengers: Doomsday was officially announced two years ago, at the San Diego Comic-Con 2024. It also confirmed the return of directors Joe and Anthony Russo to the MCU, following their 2019 blockbuster Avengers: Endgame.
Avengers: Doomsday will hit the theaters worldwide on December 18, 2026.
