If you’ve experienced travel sickness while in an EV, this hidden iPhone setting could be a gamechanger.

As more and more people take to the internet to share stories of their travel sickness woes, the demand for a solution has grown.

After all, nobody wants to feeling queasy every time they’re in a Tesla, do they?

But now a virtually unknown iPhone setting feature has been put forwards to offer some respite.

Motion sickness in a car can be a big issue for many people

News of EVs making people feel nauseous isn’t anything new.

Some features like regenerativebraking controlled by one pedal have contributed to this, as the motions can simply throw people off balance, according toABC.

There was also a report that indicated a lack of experience driving in EVs had contributed to the issue.

Essentially, our brains lacked precision in EVs because they were so reliant on past experiences in gas cars.

If the physical experience of the cabin doesn’t match up with what our brains are used to, nausea can follow.

Essentially, electric vehicles may provide too smooth a ride for our brains to compute.

It’s become a big enough issue that Mercedes felt the need to try and remedy it.

But you needn’t get a Mercedes to try and get around this problem – there’s a hidden setting in your iPhone which can help you out.

Here’s how this hidden iPhone setting can banish travel sickness

Regenerative braking has taken a lot of the brunt for this issue, but looking at tablets or phones in the car is also believed to be a contributing factor.

If you’re watching a video or scrolling on a screen, that can increase your chance of feeling queasy.

That’s because motion sickness is often linked to a conflict between what the eyes perceive and what the body’s balance system detects, taxi-point noted.

If this is all sounding too familiar to you, don’t despair – there is a solution.

Click on Settings, head to Accessibility, and select Motion.

Animated dots will then appear around the edge of the screen and will move in line with the motion of the vehicle.

How has this feature been received?

It’s a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to whether or not the feature works in practice.

Steven Aquinois a freelance tech journalist who covers accessibility in technology.

He had positive things to say about the feature.

“Features like Vehicle Motion Cues are a prime example of accessibility truly being for everyone,” he told Supercar Blondie.

“Apple is widely regarded as the undisputed leader in the industry at building assistive technologies – as one friend recently put it, Apple not only sets the bar… they ARE the bar – and the biggest companies, Amazon, Google, etc, follow in their footsteps with their own work in this realm.”

Lance Whitney, another freelance journalist in the tech sphere, wasn’t quite as sure about the benefits.

“It’s hit and miss. Sometimes it helps; sometimes not,” he explained to Supercar Blondie.

“It seems to depend on how bad your motion sickness is. If it’s mild, then the feature is able to help.

“I think it’s still worth trying, especially since everyone’s mileage may vary.”

If you find that stomach churning is becoming an all too common feature of your driving experience, then give this a go.
