Ryan Gosling is officially riding into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ghost Rider. The announcement was made during Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) 2026, where Kevin Feige confirmed the long-rumoured casting and revealed that the actor has already shaped a very personal take on the Spirit of Vengeance.
The film, directed by Shawn Levy and written by Jonathan Tropper, is slated for a 2028 theatrical release. But one burning question remains unanswered: which version of the flame-skulled antihero will Gosling play?
Kevin Feige says only one person will reveal Ryan Gosling’s Ghost Rider
Speaking to Comicbook.com in a post-panel interview at SDCC 2026, Feige refused to confirm whether Gosling would play Johnny Blaze or Danny Ketch. The Marvel Studios president made it clear that the reveal belongs entirely to the actor. “I am going to let Ryan reveal what he wants to reveal when he wants to reveal it, and what he wanted to reveal today was he’s playing Ghost Rider,” Feige said.
He went further, hinting that Ryan Gosling’s deep comic book knowledge drove the project forward. “He’s a huge fan of the comics. He did come to us, particularly with a specific vision based on some particular comics, but I’ll let him unveil that as he wants to.” That carefully guarded enthusiasm has only intensified speculation. Gosling has openly expressed interest in the character for years. Now, it appears he has mapped out precisely which storyline he wants to bring to the screen.
Marvel fans have connected Feige’s comments to one of the most celebrated supernatural storylines in the publisher’s history. “Rise of the Midnight Sons” brought together Doctor Strange, Blade, both Ghost Riders, and the Darkhold Redeemers in a crossover that many have wanted to see adapted for years. With Mahershala Ali’s Blade still in the picture and Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight already established in the MCU, the pieces for a Midnight Sons team-up could be falling into place. The specific comics Feige referenced may belong to this arc.
Ryan Gosling will be the second actor to lead a Ghost Rider movie, following Nicolas Cage’s two iconic takes at Sony. For now, fans must wait.
