The broadcast homes of the New York Knicks and Yankees and five other area pro sports teams will stream their games exclusively at a new location.
MSG Networks and YES Network announced that starting with this upcoming NBA and NHL season, they will stream the Yankees, Knicks, Rangers, Nets, Devils, Islanders and Sabres games on DAZN, ending a short-lived distribution role for the Gotham Sports App.
The exact timing of the move has not yet been settled, but it will occur sometime during the 2026-27 season, the companies said. Gotham Sports App will continue to stream games from those teams until the transition happens.
A joint venture between YES Network and MSG Networks, the Gotham Sports App launched in the fall of 2024, bringing together two major New York area regional sports networks under one streaming roof, but its users were not always fans of the product.
“Our new strategic partnership with DAZN reflects the YES Network’s continued commitment to elevate the streaming experience for our direct-to-consumer subscribers and TV Everywhere users,” YES Network president Jon Litner said in a statement. “DAZN offers a world-class technology platform and elite, live sports streaming expertise, and we look forward to working with them and MSG Networks to continue to serve Yankees and Nets fans, as well as fans of the teams carried by MSG, with the most compelling sports content in the country.”
The move continues a period of turbulence in the local RSN industry. Main Street Sports Group went out of business earlier this year, leaving more than two dozen MLB, NHL and NBA teams without local broadcast homes. MSG Networks avoided bankruptcy last year by restructuring its contracts with the Knicks and the Rangers, earning major media rights fee reductions as part of a deal to refinance more than $800 million in debt.
The timing on this move could not be better for DAZN. The Knicks won the NBA title in June for the first time in 53 years, while the Yankees are in the hunt for a spot in the MLB playoffs. The Rangers, Nets and Devils added top draft picks last month. The Sabres are coming off their first playoff appearance in 15 years and added the No. 4 pick in the NHL draft.
DAZN will become available to cable subscribers who already receive MSG Networks and YES Network as part of their subscriptions. The network will also stream on-demand content and other programming.
“We couldn’t be happier to offer our fans this opportunity to watch MSG Networks content on their state-of-the-art platform,” Kevin Marotta, MSG Networks’ SVP of content and marketing, said. “Coming off of a historic Knicks championship season, we are excited to take our streaming offering to the next level.”
This marks DAZN’s latest foray into American sports as it tries to build up its presence in the U.S.
