Rotten Tomatoes сайтад 70 хувийн үнэлгээ авсан энэхүү бүтээл нь 94 хувийн үнэлгээтэй “The Odyssey”, “The Dark Knight”, “Memento” зэрэг шилдэг кинонуудаас хол хоцорч байна.

Christopher Nolan has built one of the most respected careers in modern filmmaking. He started with the low-budget indie Following in 1998. Nolan grew into a director studios trust with massive budgets and original ideas.
Nolan is known for practical effects over heavy CGI. He often builds nonlinear stories that challenge audiences to piece together timelines. His films frequently explore memory, time and perception, from Memento to Inception to Tenet.
The Dark Knightreshaped comic book movies. Oppenheimer later won seven Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director.
His latest film, The Odyssey, arrived July 17, adapting Homer’s epic for modern audiences. It has since received rave reviews from critics and has emerged as the esteemed filmmaker’s highest-grossing movie ever.
Nolan’s filmography spans genres, decades and formats, yet keeps a consistent identity throughout.
Tenet Is Christopher Nolan’s Biggest Box-Office Disappointment
The Odyssey is Nolan’s 13th feature-length film. Universal Pictures revealed on Sunday, Aug. 9, that the epic has made $1.104 billion worldwide, making it his highest-grossing film of all time. The Odyssey has surpassed The Dark Knight Rises (2012), which earned $1.085 billion.
Not every single movie in Nolan’s resume is a massive hit, though. In fact, there is one film that significantly underperformed, based on the director’s extremely high standards.
The 2020 sci-fi thriller Tenet is about a secret agent, played by John David Washington, who takes on a time-bending mission to prevent World War III. The film also stars Robert Pattinson and Elizabeth Debicki.
According to Box Office Mojo, Tenet had a budget of $205 million. It earned $58.5 million domestically and $306.8 million at the international box office. In total, the movie grossed $365.3 million worldwide during its initial release.
Including heavy marketing expenses, experts predicted that Tenetneeded around $400 million just to break even. The fact that the film was released at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic also significantly affected its theatrical run, with cinemas worldwide either closed or operating at limited capacity.
Tenet is considered Nolan’s only major financial disappointment in his career. It also stands out as his lowest-rated film.
Tenet has a 70% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes. While it is still considered a Fresh score on the popular movie review portal (movies are Fresh when at least 60% of critic reviews are positive), Tenet pales in comparison to Nolan’s biggest hits.
The Odyssey, at 94%, is Nolan’s highest-rated picture, tied with The Dark Knight and Memento. Three other movies have a score above 90%: Oppenheimer (93%), Dunkirk (92%) and Insomnia (92%).
Tenet is ranked behind Interstellar (73%) and The Prestige (77%), to name a few.
By Nolan’s high standards, Tenet is an outlier amid the filmmaker’s remarkable career. It stands out as his biggest disappointment, both commercially and critically.
