John Cena has an intriguing collection of cars, and an interesting car story involving a Lamborghini Diablo.
It was actually a fake Lamborghini Diablo but don’t tell that to the Italian supercar manufacturer.
John Cena bought the car when he was a little less – how we can put it subtly? – rich than he is now.
But it all went sideways anyway.

John Cena has a car collection with a lot of interesting cars and equally fascinating stories behind them.
The ex-wrestler famously used to own a Ford GT that got him in trouble.
The thing is, the Ford GT is one of those vehicles you can’t really sell unless the car maker says you can.
Most no-resale clauses expire after two years, and if you ignore it, two things can happen.
In the best-case scenario, you get blacklisted – either temporarily or permanently – and you can’t buy a new car from the brand – in this case Ford – anymore.
In the worst-case scenario, you get sued. And that’s exactly what happened to Cena.
With Ford, things were eventually resolved.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about his fake Lamborghini Diablo.
Here’s what happened to John Cena’s fake Lamborghini Diablo
A long time ago, Cena bought a fake Lamborghini Diablo, which sounds like a bad idea but it actually went even worse than you think.
Most people – and certainly Lamborghini – hate seeing the words ‘fake’ and ‘Lamborghini’ in the same sentence.
And that’s for good reason.
In his case, the wrestler-turned-actor ordered a car he then didn’t see for two whole years.
Cena said: “This was 2003. I found a company that would do it. They put a V12 in it. I’m like ‘man it’s the same thing. It looks pretty good, it looks great. Yeah I’ll buy it’.
“They tried to stiff me out of the car. I had to ask some friends who knew how to find things. I then had to get a title for the car of which I did.”
Then, when it was was finally delivered eons later, it was already broken.

The wrestler said: “The car finally shows up after two years of me waiting. It doesn’t go into gear.
“Everything is confused, nothing runs – the car is not roadworthy. So I sent it to a shop, this is 2005”
In the end, he never really got it to work and ended up getting rid of it – shocker, we know.
To be fair, one of the many reasons fake cars are frowned upon is that they don’t really work.
The main problem with fake cars
Automakers spend billions of dollars in research and development and then employ specialists for everything they do and design.
So the idea that a random guy in a shed somewhere can build a car that’s even remotely close in terms of quality is a stretch.
The reason why fake cars aren’t loved – to put it mildly – goes far beyond copyright infringement.
Some fake cars and kit cars look remarkably similar to the original, but they’re not.
And, more importantly, they never work properly.
Not for long, anyway.
This is A, a safety concern and then B, an image problem as well.
Because if you have a problem with a fake car, the association with the manufacturer of the real thing is still inevitable.
Fortunately, in the case of John Cena, we can reasonably assume that he can now buy a real Lamborghini Diablo.
