This Missouri man set a world-first by taking his R22 helicopter through a drive thru.
And no, you didn’t hallucinate that entire first paragraph, this actually happened.
This YouTuber was craving some coffee from his favorite cafe and decided to take his Robinson R22 Beta 2 out to get some.
It was certainly a unique stunt, there’s no doubt about that.
We’ve seen a few unusual vehicles travel through a drive thru, but not a helicopter
Drive thrus are a place that many drivers will find themselves at one point or another.
After all, we’ve all felt the hankering for a coffee or burger while out on the road, right?
They wed convenience with food, and you can’t beat that.
But in recent years, we’ve been seeing some truly bizarre stunts rolled out in drive thrus.
For some British YouTubers, it was taking a road-legal F1 car through McDonald’s that raised more than a few eyebrows.
And that was small fries compared to what the World’s Strongest Man brought to another McDonald’s.
But the weirdest of them all has got to be the guy who transformed Elvis’ private jet into an RV and took it to…you guessed it, McDonald’s.
What happened when this man took his R22 helicopter out for a cup of coffee
The store in question was Golden Brew Coffee, based in the St. Louis area.
The goal was simple – to execute a stunt by landing the helicopter nearby, attaching handling wheels, and taking it through the drive thru to place an order.
So not quite as elaborate as flying it through, but hardly a straightforward task.
With permission from the store owner granted, YouTuber Mattylp set about carrying it out.
He also carried out the stunt just as the business closed to ensure there wasn’t any customer traffic to deal with.
Because let’s face it, who would want to get stuck behind a helicopter at the drive thru?
“I’m going to spoil the video because safety is the number one priority,” he explained.
“I wanted this to be a controlled environment, meaning I have full control. I know the owner and the store will be closed.”
How did the R22 helicopter do at the drive thru?
Landing the helicopter in the parking lot, he attached ground handling wheels to the skids and began pushing the helicopter through.
And we mean it – he literally had his hands on the helicopter and was wheeling it through.
It was time for him to place an order.
He opted for a small drink, as the big cup wouldn’t have fit inside the cupholder of his R22 helicopter.
The staff at the coffee shop also had the opportunity to sit inside the helicopter.
“I love helicopters. But when other people are like interested and people come up, that always makes me feel amazing, you know?” the YouTuber said.
“I’m just so lucky to be able to do what I do and have fun with this.”
Not many people can say their day job sees them taking helicopters to coffee shops, can they?
“They were very surprisedthat I could just fly to get coffee,” he told Supercar Blondie.
“They really liked how much freedom the helicopter had and wondered where elseI could land. Most of them thought it was funny and one of them wanted a ride.”
