Steve Martin‘s fan-favorite movie is finally all set for its first-ever 4K UHD release. The 1986 horror-comedy musical film will be celebrating its 40th anniversary with special screenings.
Little Shop of Horrors, distributed by Warner Bros., was released on December 19, 1986. On the occasion of its 40th anniversary, the Frank Oz directorial has been remastered and upscaled to 4K. The movie will be available for purchase digitally in 4K UHD and on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray on October 6, 2026.
The synopsis reads, “A comedy, a love story, and a cult classic starring a giant singing plant from outer space – what else could it be but Little Shop of Horrors? Seymour – an orphan and a nerd who works in a run-down flower shop on Skid Row – spends his time doing menial tasks and dreaming of his co-worker, Audrey. Then, one day, just after an eclipse of the sun, Seymour discovers a strange plant. The exotic plant draws customers, saves the flower shop from bankruptcy, and makes Seymour a hero in Audrey’s eyes. But the plant has a rather unique appetite … and it’s getting interested in Audrey too.”
The 1 hour 34 minute feature has a Tomatometer rating of 91%. Reflecting on the movie, InSession Film critic Romey Norton stated, “Forty years on, Little Shop of Horrors doesn’t just hold up; it thrives. It’s too busy having fun and inviting you to do the same.”
What bonus features do the new Little Shop of Horrors releases come with?
The newly remastered 4K film will be released in two versions. One would be the theatrical cut, and the second, the director’s cut. Adding to this, new bonus content will feature the filmmakers and cast reflecting on the film four decades after its release.
The cast of Little Shop of Horrors features Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, Steve Martin, Christopher Guest, Michelle Weeks, Jim Belushi, Tisha Campbell, Tichina Arnold, Abbie Dabner, and John Candy, among others. The film was produced by David Geffen and was nominated for two Academy Awards.
